Orca Technology
will soon release a new e-commerce suite for use with our Online Shopper Account. The suite includes:
- A Shopping Cart
- A Catalogue Manager
- Easy to use management tools
- Facilities to receive payments from shoppers via our secure server facilities,
through third-party payment gateways or by mail/fax only.
We have tried to make the new system as easy as possible to use. The
setup and maintenance is all browser-based and no CGI programming is required.
Payment facilities can be setup very easily too. The suite has built-in support for some payment gateways, and
many other gateways can be plugged into the shopping cart with relative ease. Our secure server facilities can
be used to receive payment details (SSL/GPG access is also included in our Online Shopper account). These new SSL/GPG
payment facilities are very easy to setup - the process is highly automated.
The shopping cart uses a flat-file database. We hope at some time in the future to provide an option of using a
MySQL database instead, but at this stage only the flat-file database version is available.
Pricing
The new e-commerce suite will be provided with our Online shopper account
free of charge. Please note, however, that if you plan to use a third-party payment gateway then the gateway company
will usually charge you separately for that - gateway access is not included in our prices.
Release plans
We plan to release the e-commerce suite on 2 July 2001. After this time
the suite will be included for free with our Online Shopper Account and will be installed on each new account as
part of the setup process.
At this time we will cease to install WebStore Shopping Cart. We hope you will find the new facilities much simpler
to setup and manage than WebStore.
Upon full release, the "Secure Server" button on our Control Panel will be amended to E-Commerce".
When you click on the E-Commerce button you will be taken to a page showing two options:
- Shopping Cart System (this is the new e-commerce suite)
- Secure Server Info (this is the same as the current 'Secure Server'
Control Panel page).
